Sydney Junior Rugby Union

GIRLS REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY

There is now a valid and viable Rep opportunity and pathway for girls junior rugby players across both club and school pathways. This is for both 7s and XV’s formats of the game.

To begin the year the NSW Waratahs Girls Academy program will run to offer  girls around the state a quality program to enhance their skills and performance for 2025.

This aims to compliment the 7’s, 10’s and XV’s offerings for Girls via the SJRU pathways. Check with your local club for dates and venues.

2024 will see SJRU again offer a ‘Rep’ opportunity for the U12 girls for the first time with the SJRU U12 Development Gala for Girls. This will be run on the 5th & 6th July at a North Narrabeen Reserve, Sydney. It is designed to compliment the new SJRU U12 10’s Girls competition and if it is well patronized by our Districts (and Country Zones) then will potentially be the precursor to NSW Juniors starting an U12 Girls State Championship. So it is important that all our Districts enter teams here to help grow the girls game.

Following on from 2024 NSW Juniors will again be selecting NSW Girls Junior Rep teams in the U16 & U18 Girls Age groups – this will be selected directly from the City vs Country games and the Australian Junior Championships. So girls will be required to play CLUB rugby to be eligible to play at State Champs and then gain selection in the Sydney or NSW Country teams pathways to get into the frame for selection. The girls finally have a full Rep pathway to compliment what the boys game already enjoys. Games vs ACT, WA and Vic are on the cards for 2025 in the post season window.
